Second Language Learning Strategies
CARLA has conducted learning strategy research and developed a number
of teacher resources for Strategies-Based Instruction,
which is a learner-centered approach to teaching that integrates strategy
training with embedded strategy practice in the foreign language classroom.
Maximizing Study
Abroad:
Strategies for Language and Culture Learning and Use
The Maximizing Study Abroad series of guidebooks helps students, program
professionals, and language instructors make the most of study abroad opportunities
through strategies for language and culture learning and use. Research
is currently being conducted to determine the effectiveness of these targeted
support materials on study abroad outcomes.
Spanish Grammar Strategies Website Project
The aim of this project is to create a user-friendly website to provide strategies for students to learn and use problematic grammar structures in Spanish.

Teachers on Language Learning Strategies
Includes information on the foundational research done on learner strategies,
an annotated bibliography on strategies, working papers, and more.
CARLA Summer
Institutes for Language Teachers
Each summer CARLA offers a wide array of professional development opportunities
for K-16 language teachers including "Improving Language Learning
through Strategies-Based Instruction," and "Maximizing Study
Abroad: Teaching Strategies for Language and Culture Learning and Use."
