Less Commonly Taught Languages
The goals of the Less Commonly Taught Languages
(LCTL) Project sponsored by CARLA are to help advance the teaching and
learning of LCTLs by:
- encouraging people to study LCTLs,
- assisting LCTL teachers in developing high-quality teaching material,
- helping LCTL teachers cooperate and communicate.
Course
Offerings for Less Commonly Taught Languages
A database of course offerings at colleges and universities, k-12 programs,
distance education courses, study abroad programs, and summer language
courses – includes contact information, levels, and availability
of courses.
Instructional Materials
Sharable material (both raw material
and exercises) for a number of languages
– includes collections of royalty-free images
and audio and video files with
suggestions on ways to incorporate these resources into in-class
and out-of-class activities.
To help you develop your own classroom material, we offer an annual summer institute, and a book on LCTL materials development.
LCTL Resources
Resources for learning and teaching LCTLs, including listservs
for LCTL teachers, a list of LCTL Organizations
and “Ask the Experts”
– a list of volunteers willing to answer questions about their language(s)
of expertise by e-mail.
CARLA Summer Institutes
for Language Teachers
Each summer CARLA offers a wide array of professional development opportunities
for K-16 language teachers.
