Continuing Professional Education Clock Hours

Participants can earn certificates for up to 30 Continuing Professional Education Clock Hours for full attendance at any of the week-long CARLA summer institutes.

Graduate Level Credit

Most of the institutes are available for 2 semester graduate-level credits at an additional cost through the University’s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) or the College of Liberal Arts (CLA).

Institutes for which you can register for graduate-level credits this year are:

Immersion 101 - Focus on Chinese/Japanese (CI 5660)-CEHD
Immersion 101 (CI 5660)-CEHD
Challenges of Immersion Education (CI 5660)-CEHD
Culture as the Core (CI 5660)-CEHD
SLA Basics for Teachers (CI 5660)-CEHD
Using Technology (LgTT 5110)-CLA
Styles- and Strategies-Based Instruction (CI 5660)-CEHD
Second Language Assessment (CI 5660)-CEHD
Content-Based Language Instruction (CI 5660)-CEHD
Pragmatics (CI 5660)-CEHD

Registration for credit will take place on the first day of the institute and payment will be due shortly after. Bills will be sent out by the University of Minnesota electronically. More information about billing can be found at:  http://onestop.umn.edu/onestop/tuition.html.

Tuition and Fees

The cost of the tuition for graduate-level credits depends on your status at the University of Minnesota:

Non-Degree Seeking Students - For those not matriculated in degree programs at the U of MN, the tuition cost is approximately $388.25 per credit, plus approximately $180 in registration fees for two credits. Download an Information Sheet or see : http://onestop.umn.edu/onestop/Tuition_Billing/Tuition_Rates.html

Degree-Seeking - Students who are currently enrolled in degree-seeking programs at the U of MN are eligible for a discount on the initial, non-credit registration/materials fee. Currently enrolled U of MN students will pay only $150 per institute, IN ADDITION TO REGISTERING AND PAYING FOR CREDIT. To receive this discount, registrants must indicate their U of MN student ID on the application form and will need to pay for their initial registration costs using a paper form that can either be faxed or mailed into the College of Continuing Education (CCE). Those registrants who receive a discount, but do not register for credit on the first day of the institute, will be billed for the balance of the registration cost.

Degree-Seeking students should register for credit on the first day of the institute. Those who need to register for credit earlier (for reasons of financial aid, etc.) should first complete and submit their non-credit registration to CCE and then contact Karin Larson (larso205@umn.edu) for credit registration permission.

International participants are currently not eligible to enroll for credit because of INS regulations.
