All options listed below are within walking distance of the Institutes and the East Bank campus of the University of Minnesota. For each of them, you will need to identify the CARLA Summer Institutes to receive a discount. For more information on housing options, please contact the CARLA office (carla@umn.edu).

As a service to participants in CARLA-sponsored conferences and summer institutes, we are maintaining a list of participants who are seeking someone with whom to share accommodations.


Wales Guest House

This delightful cooperative guest house is within walking distance of the University campus (7 blocks from Institute sites). Breakfast is included and a kitchen is available for guest use. Some rooms have private bathrooms and others are shared. This has been a very popular choice for Summer Institute participants in the past, so be sure to reserve a room early. Early reservations are recommended and the deadline is April 1, 2008.

Days Hotel University

The Days Hotel is a popular and modestly-priced housing option for institute participants. It includes a continental breakfast, shuttle to the University campus, and high speed internet connections. The Days Inn University is located 6-10 blocks from the site of the Institutes. Must book at least 30 days prior to institute and ask for the CARLA Summer Institute group rate.

Radisson Hotel University

The Radisson Hotel University is a four-star hotel located on the U of MN campus. It is a short walk to the CARLA Institutes. Includes complimentary high speed internet connections and a hotel shuttle. You must make reservations up to three weeks prior to the institute to receive a special rate of $109/night plus tax. Available only for the first two institute weeks. Ask for the CARLA Summer Institute block.

University Inn

The University Inn is a short bus ride (or long walk of 8+ blocks) from the Institutes. Its weekly rates and amenities, including kitchenettes in every room, onsite coin laundry, and high-speed Internet, would make this an economical choice for those staying more than one week. For reservations please call and ask for the CARLA Summer Institute rate.

The most economical and basic housing option near campus. Availability is very limited. Single dorm rooms are approximately $46/night for a single occupancy room.
