Maximizing Study Abroad Research Project

Building on a strong foundation of theory and practice regarding language strategies and cross-cultural awareness, CARLA produced a guidebook series during the third cycle of NLRC funding (1999-2002) entitled Maximizing Study Abroad Through Language and Culture Strategies. This series was developed to support (1) study abroad students, (2) program professionals working with these students, and (3) language instructors in maximizing students’ effectiveness in learning language and culture both before, during, and after their study abroad experiences. Under a grant from USDE’s International Research and Studies Program (2002-2005), research has been conducted to field test the three guidebooks in the Maximizing Study Abroad series.
