R.Michael Paige
Professor of International and Intercultural Education

R. Michael Paige, Professor of International and Intercultural Education, coordinates the Comparative and International Development Program in the Department of Educational Policy and Administration. He has been on the faculty since 1977 and for the first 16 years at Minnesota served as the Associate Director for the Office of International Education (now the International Student and Scholar Services). He has been an intercultural educator and trainer since 1968 when he began working with the U.S. Peace Corps on their cross-cultural training.

Holder of two Distinguished Teaching awards in the College of Education and Human Development, Professor Paige has worked with CARLA for six years co-directing and directing a variety of projects related to Language and Culture Learning initiatives. His efforts have resulted in two CARLA working papers, a culture teaching manual for teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and (with Andrew Cohen, James Lassegard, and Julie Chi ) three volumes on culture and language learning strategies for students, teachers, and study abroad advisors. His team has also conducted a research project on levels of intercultural development and language/culture learning experiences.
